LAFARGE Zambia has donated K20, 000 to Chilanga Mother of Mercy Hospice following the successful hosting of the Lafarge Lusaka Marathon.
Speaking during the presentation of the donation that was held on April 29, 2017, Zambia Chief Executive officer Mr Vincent Bouckaert said, Lafarge would continue to support the Hospice in achieving its cause.
“We can see the difference the hospice is making in our community in terms of health and education, and we are here to present this donation to help you in your operations.
“The focus of the hospice falls within the corporate social responsibility pillars that we support and this is why the Marathon was taken as an initiative to help raise funds for institutions such as this,” he said.
Mr Bouckaert assured the hospice of continued support from Lafarge as well as lobbying through the Lafarge foundation to encourage employees’ participation by donating time and effort to help support the hospice.
And Chilanga Mother of Mercy Hospice Sister in-charge, Sr. Jeremiah, who received the donation, thanked Lafarge for the continued support.
“I want to thank you for this donation and of course not only this one but for other monetary and material support you have been providing to the Hospice.
“I know a lot of building structures here are built through your donations and the bus you gave us is also assisting us very much in our operations. On behalf of the Hospice, I would like to say thank you,” she said.
Sr. Jeremiah appealed to other companies to emulate Lafarge and continue to help the Hospice as it endeavoured to provide a service to the vulnerable in the community.
Lafarge Zambia’s is commemorating health and safety month, and the interaction with community stakeholders is part of the practical contribution to the month’s theme of ‘I stop unsafe work’. Lafarge Zambia employees will be cleaning Freedom compound aimed at promoting hygiene.
