A scam has been unearthed where some unscrupulous people pretending to be labour inspectors are going companies and organisations to carryout inspections and siphon money from employers.
Permanent secretary, in the ministry of labour and social security Barnaby Mulenga, said he had received reports of people who are going to companies and organisations to inspect and collect money from employers.
Mr Mulenga said the ministry of labour and social security was disheartened with the development and warned anyone engaged in the act to desist from it immediately or full wrath of the Law.
“We therefore urge members of the public to be wary of these individuals who are impersonating our officers. Members of the Public must also ask for proper identification from anyone claiming to be an Inspector from the Ministry.
“Kindly be informed that labour inspectors from our ministry go to companies or organisations with proper identification cards signed by the permanent secretary and they use government (GRZ) registered vehicles and not personal vehicles,” Mr Mulenga said.
He said, most importantly, his officers conduct inspections in a group of more than two people not just an individual
“Should you be suspicious of anyone who comes to your organisation without proper identification, claiming to be a senior inspector from ministry of labour and social security, contact the police on 991 or the office of the Labour Commissioner on 0211 222617,” he said.
