IN an effort to prevent the spread of cholera, a combined team of Solwezi municipal council police, Zambia Police and Zambia Army swung into action to remove marketeers at Kyawama and Mitex markets trading outside the market.
Council public relations officer Moses Ngosa said the move is meant to prevent the outbreak of cholera in the district.
He said the area the marketeers were using was not just illegal but also hazardous to both the traders and the general public.
He said the removing of the marketeers was just one of the interventions put in place to avoid outbreak of the pandemic.
But some affected traders were not happy with the move saying that it should have been done at a time when they were allocated an alternative trading area.
Janet Mulenga wondered why they (traders) were not notified about the move.
She said the move has crippled her business.
And Mercy Lukuma appealed to the local authority to quickly find alternative land for the traders.
