NORTH-WESTERN Province Minister, Richard Kapita has dispelled assertions by some sectors of society that Government is doing nothing to deliver development to the province.
Mr Kapita said Government was carrying out a number of big developmental projects in North-Western province such as construction of big secondary schools in remote areas of the province, connecting all districts to the national power grid and construction of office and residential accommodation in new districts, among others.
He said it was unfortunate that despite all such big projects being undertaken, some people continue misleading the public that Government was doing nothing in the province.
Mr Kapita said this after touring developmental projects in Kabompo and Manyinga districts, such as Kayombo Boarding Secondary School situated about 96 kilometres from Kabompo town, Kabompo Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) sub-station and Manyinga district administration site whose infrastructures has reached advanced level.
The minister has also implored the media to publicise the massive development projects Government was undertaking so that people could see what was on the ground for themselves instead of being told lies by some unappreciative people.
Meanwhile, Mr Kapita said it was saddening that some contractors, especially Zambian contractors abandoned projects after being given some money.
He said this in reference to a contractor who abandoned the construction of police houses in Manyinga district at an early stage.
And in Kabompo, ZESCO area manager, Mwangala Mufuzi has appealed to the community in the district to apply for connection of power because the district now has a lot of power following the connection to the national grid in January this year.
Mr Mufuzi said the power utility has a capacity of 50 MVA in the district but only less than one percent is being consumed.
