CHISHIMBA Kambwili should unreservedly apologise to the nation for lying that a victim who was hacked during a fracas at Lusaka Central Police Station died when in fact not, Patriotic Front media director Sunday Chanda has demanded.
Both the police and the University Teaching Hospital management have confirmed that the victim, Sibeso Kufekisa, 22, a security guard of John Laing was alive.
Police public relations officer Esther Katongo and her UTH counterpart, Natalie Mashikolo, dismissed online media reports that the victim had died as false and misleading.
Ms Mashikolo said Mr Kufekisa was discharged from UTH on Wednesday and that his parents were contacted and confirmed that he was alive.
Mr Chanda said Mr Kambwili was spreading false news through his Facebook page which was immoral to try and gain political mileage over a misfortune. He has since demanded Mr Kambwili withdraws his statement by apologising to the family of the victim and the public.
“We therefore demand that Mr Kambwili withdraws his statement by apologising to the family of the victim and the Zambian general public at large,” he said. Mr Chanda said Mr Kambwili deliberately did not mention the name of the victim because he knew what he was saying was false. He said the PF condemns all forms of violence and that it would cooperate with the police to bring all perpetrators of the vice to book.
Mr Kambwili in his Facebook posting on friday claimed that the victim who was caught up in the fracas at Lusaka Division had died.
