CHISHIMBA Kambwili has been warned that he risks serious penalties for failure to report to the police on the Copperbelt where he was summoned together with five others today.
Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Charity Katanga confirmed the summoning of Mr Kambwili, but could not give details on the matter.
Ms Katanga said Mr Kambwili has allegedly refused to receive a call-out which police officers had taken to him.
Mr Kambwili however called Ms Katanga and informed her that he will not turn up.
But a Lusaka-based lawyer, Mr Hobday Kabwe, warned that Mr Kambwili could be slapped with a charge for disregarding a police call-out.
“The law dictates everyone to obey lawful orders. Disregarding a police call-out, for example, can attract penalties. If you are summoned by the police you must oblige especially if the matter is of a criminal nature.”
Mr Kabwe said the law allows the police to use necessary means to deal with Mr Kambwili.
“Police have powers to force him to appear before them. They can even forcefully arrest and slap a charge on him if they deem fit,” said Mr Kabwe.
