THE case in which Chishimba Kambwili has sued Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations, Amos Chanda for defamation failed to take off in the Lusaka High Court on Wednesday as Mr Kambwili’s lawyer was not in court.
When the matter came up for possible hearing, Mr Chanda’s lawyer, Lubinda Linyamba told the court that Mr Kambwili’s lawyer had been communicated to but was not in court.
Mr Linyama sought the guidance of the court going by the absence of Mr Kambwili’s lawyer. The court ordered that the matter be adjourned to April 9 2018 for status to allow High Court Deputy Registrar Irene Washimanga deal with the preliminary issue on irregularity.
This is in a matter in which, Mr Kambwili, who is Roan Member of Parliament, sued Mr Chanda over alleged defamatory statements issued against him.
Mr Kambwili accused Mr Chanda of calling him a scrap metal thief in an interview that was allegedly given to then online publication, News Diggers.
He alleged that the said words were understood to mean that he was a well-known documented scrap metal thief and a thief in general.
