THE desire by Mr Chishimba Kambwili to position himself as the voice of the Zambian miners and the poor is laughable, says Copperbelt Province Minister Bowman Lusambo.
Mr Lusambo is convinced that Mr Kambwili was not the best person to champion the cause of the miners, because he had lamentably failed to protect their interests even when he had a chance to do so not so long ago.
He said Mr Kambwili claimed he was so wealthy that he could fly to London in the morning to drink tea and come back to Zambia in the evening, yet the interests of the miners in Luanshya were still under represented.
“By going around the country and condemning the government of President Edgar Lungu, Mr Kambwili is merely confirming what some of us have always thought of the man – a desperate man who wants to continue eating with both hands.
“Not so long ago, Mr Kambwili sat in a very privileged position in Government and his miserable performance is still very clear in our people’s minds and apart from forcibly grabbing all the lucrative supply contracts from the mines to his personal companies, he failed to protect the same people who he now wishes to speak for,” said Mr Lusambo.
Mr Lusambo however said Government, made its position clear on the situation at Mopani and it was therefore disingenuous for Mr Kambwili to wish to make cheap political capital out of that situation.
He said the Mopani situation was solvable, hence the Copperbelt Province remained intact and the government was firmly on top of things, because it was a strategically important region and will never be disturbed by lumpens and visionless people.
“It is sad that Mr Kambwili conveniently wants to cheat himself that Zambians have forgotten how hopeless he was when he served as a Cabinet Minister and it is a travesty to have political dramatists like him wanting to distort President Sata’s legacy by making false comparisons.
“Mr Kambwili is a man who thinks in reverse and does not deserve to be taken seriously by Zambians especially the miners on the Copperbelt who should ignore him completely,” Mr Lusambo said.
