RESIDENTS of Lusaka’s Kabwata hostels have asked the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) to install additional prepaid meters in the area for easy access to water.
Beatrice Mwanza, a resident, complained that the hostels had one prepaid meter to carter for six blocks with 48 rooms.
Ms Mwanza said that it was difficult for residents to manage water usage with such a large number of people using one meter.
“This is why we are calling on the relevant authority to install more prepaid meters.
“I think it is not conducive to have one prepaid meter in a shared arrangement like this one because people use water differently and thus we end up not having water almost on a daily basis because the users are just too many,” she said.
The Hostel has 6 blocks with 48 rooms and so it was better for LWSC to install more meters.
She said that water had become a big challenge despite making numerous calls on the utility company to alleviate the problem.
She said that the best solution was to provide meters in each block so that residents could manage water in an orderly manner.
Another resident Michael Hankanga said that they had been experiencing water interruptions since Monday last week.
Mr Hankanga said that that the water crisis had forced residents to look for water in neighboring communities.
