RESIDENTS of Lusaka’s Kabanana compound have teamed up to rehabilitate dilapidated roads in the area.
One of the residents Loveness Chola said that the community took it upon themselves to contribute money for use in the rehabilitation process.
Ms Chola said that it was only right that members of any community played a role in the development of the area they lived in whenever they could.
“As a community, we organised ourselves to see what we can do to repair our roads, seeing that they have been in a bad state for quite some time.
“I believe that every responsible member of society will not wait for the relevant authority to deal with each and every problem there is, we must be able to do things when we can,” she said.
And coordinator of the project Davis Kambale said the roads had been in a deplorable state for many years and thus the community thought it wise to begin rehabilitation works as they waited for their area member of Parliament to look into the poor state of roads.
“The residents are willing to maintain roads in this area through this initiative because already they have been commuted to contributing money towards this project because we want to see good road network in our area,” he said.
