I AM no longer eyeing the republican Presidency because being in solitary has made me realise that my loyalty lies with President Edgar Lungu and the ruling Patriotic Front (PF), former United Democratic Front (UDF) president Miles Sampa has said.
And Mr Sampa said he was prompted to defect from the PF because he felt sidelined and that the decision was warped by emotions of losing his uncle the late Republican President Michael Sata.
He said in an interview with the Daily Nation that most of the decisions he made after the passing of President Sata were driven by emotions and they were mostly regrettable.
Mr Sampa, who was Matero constituency PF Member of Parliament, disclosed that he had made a lot of errors in the wake of mourning his uncle but that he had come to learn that he was going in the wrong direction.
He reiterated that being on sabbatical and in isolation had made him realise that he was missing the PF and serving the Zambian people.
Mr Sampa, however, said that he was no longer interested in being the Republican President because he had realised that being Head of State was a decision of God and choice of the people.
“PF is family, I’ve been around with everyone for such a very long time. I just felt sidelined, I also lost an uncle, and my decisions then were warped. My emotions at that time just became warped,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Sampa said that he was looking forward to the day when he would be welcomed back to the PF because he terribly missed being a part on them.
He reiterated that he had changed for the better after realising his mistakes and that he was ready to wait to be invited back to the party no matter how long it took.
Mr Sampa, who is also former deputy minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, claimed that his return was not in any way instigated by a desire to get a job.
He, however, said that he was available to serve in any position if called upon because he missed being of service to the Zambian people.
Mr Sampa said that he would not mind even being given the opportunity to serve the people as a councilor and that he would still remain loyal even without any position.
