There has been an on-going debate on which product is best between Iphone and Android, and when it comes to buying good smartphones; it can be hard to choose especially if you have no prior experience of both phones. Both phones have stand out features that make them special and I as I always say, it depends with what you mostly use it for that usually determines the specs. |
Before we get started, let me make it clear that this guide is a brief overview to help prospective buyers to choose wisely. We are not covering every feature of both phones but just some important features that I think are very cardinal, let me also state that some die-hard fans would not be persuaded to change and that is not our focus, our focus is to help give a basic understanding of both phones to help a basic user who may be struggling with the question of choice. Last year both sides recorded great sales numbers. Samsung, the leading manufacturer of Android handsets, sold 308.5 million units and Apple came out second position with 215.5 million iPhones sold. And this is about 80 percent of worldwide smartphone profits.
Which one is the better smartphone? And what are the differences?
Hardware
Hardware is the first thing that clearly distinguishes both phones between the iPhone and Android. It’s easy to recognize an apple device from an android one owing to the fact that IPhone has tight control over how it looks and how the software and hardware work together that’s why it is hard to find a counterfeit. Android phones vary widely in size, weight, features and quality because Google has many different phone makers and it offers its Android software to all these manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola, etc. because of that there is no standard design for android phones as compared to IPhone because even if these companies use the same android software, there is also competition therefore you cannot find a standard design for android phones, you have to pick both a brand and a model. If you are buying an iPhone all you just need is to pick your model; they have standard high quality hardware, which can be confusing sometimes on making a better choice but Higher-priced Android phones tend to be fairly reliable and high quality as compared to other cheaper brands that may overheat, freeze up, or break. Some may prefer the greater choice that Android offers, but others appreciate Apple’s simplicity and quality. The choice is yours.
Assistants
In this day and age cellphones are not just used for making calls or messaging, more features get added every now and then and one great feature that has been added to most smartphones is intelligent assistants of which iPhones have Siri and Android phones have Google Now. both do almost similar functions but their capabilities differ. Apple Siri is improving all the time and that said, it’s still limited to fairly simple tasks and doesn’t offer the advanced smarts of Google Assistant however Google Now is not really a virtual assistant you can have a conversation with, whereas Siri does at least try.
Both Apple Siri and google now can be used to set alarms, reminders, get directions, send text messages and emails using dictation check and more .
Software updates
Android software is not like Apples ios, android is open-source software used by multiple manufacturers and the major problem that Google has is updating their software in time; users have to wait to receive software updates that fix bugs or speed up operations. On the other hand, Apple has complete control over both software and hardware and their software updates are available to all supported iPhones which includes all devices such as iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches.
Android updates take months to arrive on all the devices unless you are on one of Google’s Nexus devices, you rarely receive software updates, and you may need to wait for a new Android smartphone to get the latest software.
Security
There is no doubt that Apple is well known for its strict privacy measures and there are several reasons why iPhones are more secure than the various phones running on Android software as compared to Android which is more vulnerable to malware. Android phones take up about 80% of the global smartphone market as compared to iOS’s 20 percent which makes android more attractive to cybercriminals, hackers are more likely to succeed if they write programs for these devices and not only that but it’s much easier to get that malware onto an Android phone because it isn’t locked down like an iPhone.
According to Mike Johnson, who runs the security technologies graduate program at the University of Minnesota.
Johnson has used both Android and iOS devices, but he has an iPhone because of its security edge. According to his statement he says, the process of “patching” security holes is easier on iOS devices. Apple’s iOS operating system only runs on iPhones, while Android software runs on phones made by numerous manufacturers. It’s more complicated to deliver patches, or bug fixes, that work across so many device makers. Android can release a patch, but it won’t necessarily be available on all devices right away.” Continues tomorrow
