ZAMBIANS should ignore the rantings of Rainbow Party leader, Wynter Kabimba because he is a flip-flopper who wants to seize any opportunity to criticise government to redeem himself, the Patriotic Front (PF) has charged.
In an interview with the Daily Nation yesterday, PF media director Sunday Chanda charged that Mr. Kabimba was a frustrated lonely politician who was in a hurry to resurrect his diminished political fortunes and urged Zambians to ignore him.
Mr. Chanda was reacting to media reports quotting Mr. Kabimba as telling peasant farmers not to expect any development from President Edgar Lungu’s administration.
Mr. Kabimba said that President Lungu had shown farmers his true colours and that they should not expect any positive price from the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) until the next elections in 2021.
Mr Chanda took a swipe at Mr. Kabimba, describing him as a ‘flip-flopper’ who wanted to engage in cheap political rhetoric to redeem himself.
He said that Mr. Kabimba was just looking for attention and some publicity for his “nashala neka” political party.
“Mr. Kabimba’s attacks on President Lungu are unacceptable…But we understand his frustrations. We know that he is in a hurry to resurrect his diminished political fortunes, which is almost impossible because the Zambians know him. He is a flip-flopper.
“We don’t want to engage in cheap political rhetoric with the likes of Kabimba because we know that the only way of him being relevant on the political scene was to always criticise government. So, farmers and Zambians should just ignore him,” Mr. Chanda said.
Mr. Chanda said that If Mr. Kabimba was sincere enough, he would have admitted the fact that the price of mealie-meal was reduced to the excitement of Zambians.
“Why is he not talking about the price of mealie-meal? If Kabimba was candid enough, he was going to acknowledge the fact that the price of mealie-meal is coming down for the benefits of the poor Zambians,” he said.
And Mr. Chanda said the government was doing everything possible to ensure that the price of maize is resolved through a meeting that will be held among ZNFU, FRA and the stakeholders.
He said that as a party in power, PF was desirous of getting a win-win situation between the farmers and FRA, so that the farmers could also realize the value for their investments in agricultural activities.
