THE Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) has vowed to withdraw certificates of approval from training institutions not following the prescribed admission criteria.
(HPCZ) public relations officer Terry Musonda said the council was instead encouraging all training institutions offering approved health training programmes to follow the prescribed admission criteria.
He said failure to comply with this requirement would be a recipe for withdraw of the approval training certificate issued by the council.
He urged parents, guardians and would-be students to cross-check with the council before enrolling for any health-related training-programmes at any training institutions to avoid wasting time and the hard-earned financial resources.
Adding: “The health profession Act no. 24 of 2009 part iv section 32(1) of the laws of Zambia provides that a training institution shall not provide training to prepare students for a health profession, unless the training programme is approved by the Health Professions Council of Zambia.”
Mr Musonda urged the would-be students and the general public seeking training services to demanding for a valid 2018 HCPZ approval certificate, before they can proceed with registration.
He said the council remained committed to its goal of: “promoting quality healthcare and safeguarding public safety, as its prime concern.”
“Therefore parents, guardians and would-be students in particular are therefore advised not to be seeking any health-related training-services from training institutions that are not licensed by the Health Professions Council of Zambia.
It should be noted that the minimum entry for any health related programme is credits in five ordinary levels which must include English, mathematics, science, biology/agriculture science and any other subject.”
Mr Musonda reiterated that HPCZ would neither register any student not meeting this requirement for any approved training programme nor issue practicing certificate upon graduating.
