GOVERNMENT has set aside K200 million towards the construction of the Fredrick Chiluba University in Luapula Province, says permanent secretary Buleti Nsemukila.
The university is expected to be constructed in Mansa district, about 10 kilometers from the town centre.
Speaking when he addressed the locals during his recent visit to Mansa district, President Edgar Lungu expressed unhappiness over the delayed construction of the university.
President Lungu said the project had taken too long to be actualised and that the people of Luapula were now running out of patience.
He blamed Members of Parliament from from the region for their lack of commitment towards the project.
“I have appointed a good number of Cabinet ministers from here but I don’t know what they are doing. They are the people who should ensure that this and other projects are done on time and accordingly,” President Lungu said.
He also criticised the parliamentarians’ failure to monitor economic activities being carried out by Government in the province.
He urged them to unite and speak with one voice if the province was to fully develop.
President Lungu however promised he would closely monitor all the developmental projects currently under implementation in the province to ensure they were completed as scheduled.
