THE Ministry of General Education in has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Rockview University aimed at improving managerial performance among school managers.
The MoU has been signed after the North Western Province education office realised that there was inconsistency in terms of performance.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, provincial education officer Stephen Chishiko said there has been inconsistency in terms of performance by school managers and other education providers.
He said performance has been fluctuating from time to time, adding that performance was broad and embodied a lot of aspects contrary to perceptions most people had that it was learner achievement.
“Because of that, we realised the need to come up with a framework, a tool that is going to guide our operations so that there is consistency in what we are doing,
“In this regard, we came up with a strategic plan which is dubbed as “learner improvement strategic plan,” he said.
He said that the strategic plan had six thematic areas which include, leadership management and supervision, teacher’s preparedness and learner support.
“Other areas we are looking at are assessment, policy development and implementation and monitoring and evaluation,” he said.
He said leadership was cardinal in every organisation because it determined the level of development and performance.
“Now, when we talk of leadership in a school set up, we are not just talking about school head teachers alone but also looking at officers within the institutions with influence over teaching and learning process and that is why we are signing this agreement,” he said.
And Rockview University Vice Chancellor Dr Hosea Chishila said performance could only improve when school managers, deputies and head of departments had managerial skills.
