…you can’t hide from the law
By MUKOSELA KASALWE
FOMRER UPND spokesperson Edwin Lifwekelo yesterday warned United Kingdom-based fugitive Larry Mweetwa not to take too much comfort in the fact that he is untraceable in Europe after breaking the laws of Zambia.
Mr Lifwekelo said Mr Mweetwa must know that he would be extradited to Zambia to account for his statement threatening the country’s peace and security.
Mr. Lifwekelo said Mr. Mweetwa, the UPND spokesperson based in London would soon be extradited to Zambia for allegedly inciting violence and threatening the country’s peace.
In an interview yesterday, Mr. Lifwekelo said there was need to engage the British Government on the dangerous utterances by Mr. Mweetwa especially that acts of terrorism had affected and brought untold suffering and misery to that country.
He said Mr. Mweetwa was not above the law and that he should not think the United Kingdom was too far from Zambia.
Mr. Mweetwa had celebrated the burning of city market on his Facebook page and urged arsonists to intensify such dastardly acts.
Suspects on offences of terrorism are taken seriously in the United Kingdom where many citizens have lived in fear of terror attacks. “Lusaka on fire now as I speak due to HH arrest. Job well done bane (friends) let’s intensify such actions and defend democracy,” Mr Mweetwa posted on his Facebook wall soon after the Lusaka Market was gutted.
Mr Lifwekelo said the action and words by Mr. Mweetwa should not be taken lightly as they were a threat to the country’s peace and national security.
“Larry Mweetwa thinks he is above the law and that UK is too far from Zambia but he may soon be extradited to Zambia to account for his overrated assumptions which are a threat to the country’s peace and security,” Mr Lifwekelo said.
Mr. Lifwekelo said it was unfortunate that Mr. Mweetwa had publicly promoted acts of sabotage, violence and anarchy.
Meanwhile, the former UPND leader has taken a swipe at United Progressive Party president (UPP) Saviour Chishimba for issuing disparaging remarks against President Lungu.
He said the cartel working against the government was actively working to incite political violence and undermine the government.
