THE European Union (EU) says it will continue supporting the Zambian government in areas of economic development.
And UNICEF Zambia Representative, Hamid El-Bahir Ibrahim has hailed the Government’s efforts to improve the health system in Zambia.
EU Ambassador to Zambia, Alessandro Mariani explained that the EU had been attracted to work with the government due to the cordial relationship it was enjoying with President Edgar Lungu.
He was speaking during the handover ceremony of the newly constructed Maternity Wings at Kafue Mission Hospital and Chikupi Health Centre in Kafue District on Monday.
Amb Mariani cited the health sector as one area the Union had considered to inject huge investments.
“I can sure you that the European Union will continue working with President Lungu and the Zambian government to better the lives of the citizens of this country.”
“The EU will cooperate with Zambia in all areas it shares same objectives such as strengthening the health system in the country,” said Amb Mariani.
Amb Marian further commended the people of Zambia and other stakeholders’ efforts towards the economic development of Zambia.
And speaking at the same event, UNICEF Zambia Representative Hamid El-Bahir Ibrahim hailed the government for its efforts to improve the health system in Zambia.
“Allow me to congratulate the government for the exemplary commitments and efforts to accelerate progress towards Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Mortality Reduction in Zambia,” he said.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya said improving the health sector was among Government’s top priorities.
Dr Chilufya, who is also Mansa Central PF MP, explained that Zambia could only attain meaningful economic development if its citizens were healthy.
And Minister of Higher Education Prof Nkandu Luo appealed to UNICEF and the EU to consider increasing its investment in Zambia’s health sector.
