UPND Katombora Member of Parliament Derrick Livune has asked President Edgar Lungu to declare the cholera situation a national disaster.
Mr. Livune says that whether Zambians want it or not, the cholera situation is a national disaster.
He said that people are now scared of travelling to Lusaka adding that they are also scared of interacting with those from the capital city.
In an interview with the Daily Nation in Mukuni village on Saturday during the Lwiindi Lwa Basilombe lombe for the leya people of Chief Mukuni, Mr. Livune was optimistic that a solution to the cholera situation would be found.
“The cholera situation is a complex issue and Kazungula district is not alienated to Zambia and government. It is unfortunate we have lost lives,” he said. “Like it or not this is a national disaster and it must be declared. People are now scared of going to Lusaka and tourists also are cancelling their air tickets to travel to Zambia,” said Mr. Livune. Mr. Livune is hopeful that a solution will be found before the whole country is ravaged with cholera.
“I pray that the solution will be found. We thank God the rains are not that bad but if it was pouring heavily, our country would have been on supersonic recipient of cholera,” he said.
