SIAVONGA district commissioner Lovemore Kanyama says his office will involve the services of evaluators to determine the true cost of the recently constructed public toilets by the local authority.
Speaking in an interview after he inspected the K250,000 ablution block at Siavonga Recreation Park, Mr Kanyama said he found it difficult to accept that the money the district council claims to have used on the project was the correct amount.
He called on residents and the general public to be calm as his office was doing everything possible to determine how the project was conducted and the amount involved.
Some residents in Siavonga have questioned claims by the opposition UPND-run Siavonga District Council that it used K250,000 on the construction of the public toilets in the central business district and have called on the office of the DC to investigate the matter.
And Mr Kanyama says should it be established that Government resources were misapplied during the construction, his office will ask the police to bring to book all those involved.
“I’m warning those involved that should it be established that there were some irregularities in the procurement process for the ablution block project, they will be made to pay back the money,” Mr Kanyama said.
He said he was yet to meet the council chairman Mr James Simataa and his secretary to hear from them on issues being raised by the residents.
And in another Development, Mr Kanyama has come out strongly against some civil servants in the district fond of leaking Government information to the opposition.
He said those doing so will soon be exposed and prosecuted. He further warned those undermining Government developmental programmes and projects in the district and promised that the culprits will be dealt with and transferred out of Siavonga.
“There is total indiscipline coming from some civil servants in the district as far as the work culture is concerned. Indisciplined workers will be transferred out of Siavonga before they spoil other civil servants who are dedicated to Government work,” he said, adding that those whose names have been targeted for transfer were now influencing their fellow workers.
“It’s time for the Local Government Service Commission to speed up the transfer processes because as a district we want development,” said Mr Kanyama.
