SOME criminals want to “trap” government into declaring a state of emergency and martial law to justify their claims that Zambia is a dictatorship, says Bwana Mkubwa Member of Parliament Dr Jonas Chanda. Dr. Chanda has appealed to the Head of State not to fall into their trap.
He said Zambia was bigger than any individual or political party. “No individual, politician or otherwise, is worth dying for or burning down a country to ashes. Almost all these cases are happening under the cover of darkness, “Zambia police, with assistance from other security wings, should secure all public buildings and institutions in all major cities and towns as well as secure our porous borders, “Council police, citizens, neighbourhood security groups should be mobilised to secure public property in their localities,” he said.
Dr Chanda has demanded that arsonists and economic saboteurs who have caused damage to poor people’s businesses and key economic infrastructure should be brought to account urgently and prosecuted. He charged that the current spate of fires on key economic infrastructure in Lusaka and Ndola was no accident but a well-planned criminal operative serving narrow political interests to paralyse Zambia economically and instil fear.
He said the destroying key infrastructure which had cost tax payers millions to build will cost millions more to repair.
