NEWLY appointed City of Lusaka head coach Hector Chilombo says his team is in contention for the 2017 league title despite the side still languishing in the relegation zone.
Chilombo promised that City will not be relegated from the super league noting that it was too early to rule them out from title race.
In an interview with Daily Nation Sports after City’s 2-2 draw against Real Nakonde at Woodlands stadium, Chilombo said it was painful City had lost points in the week 12 fixture having led the game 2-0 in the first half.
With two draws from two games in his new role, Chilombo believed his club could improve as there were still many games to be played in the MTN/FAZ Super League.
“I get surprised when people talk of City of Lusaka being relegated. There are still more games to be played. About 25 games such that we can even win the league,” Chilombo said.
City is yet to win a game at Woodlands but Chilombo was optimistic it will come soon as they had a long way to go before the league was concluded.
Chilombo however noted that City will have to improve on the errors made in the last two games for the Woodlands-based super division side to collect maximum points.
“We started the game positively against Real Nakonde and were able to score two good goals in the first half but my players lost concentration in the second half and allowed Real Nakonde to get back into the game,
“We will have to work on the defensive errors we made but I’m happy with the team. This is my second game after we drew last week against Lumwana Radiants.
He said the draw was painful but he was happy with the way the boys played against Real Nakonde, adding that a win will definitely come because there will many unplayed games.
City Ya Moto is lying 19th on the league table with 9 points from eleven games from which it won two, drew three and has recorded six losses.
