THREE Road Sector Agencies and the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) have joined efforts to combat cholera by donating generously towards the cause.
The three road sector agencies donated cleaning materials worth K100, 000 while ZRA contributed five vehicles to the Ministry of Health with fuel worth K25, 000 to ease movement for medical personnel.
The three are the National Road Fund Agency (NRFA), Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) and Road Development Agency (RDA)
Speaking on behalf of the three agencies in Lusaka at the weekend, RTSA head of public relations Fredrick Mubanga said the unprecedented spread of cholera was a public health issue that needed the engagement of all stakeholders to prevent further spread of the epidemic.
Mr Mubanga said there was need to refocus energy towards implementing measures anchored on promoting good hygiene practices in work places.
He said there was need for a united front that aimed at mobilising resources to prevent the further spread of the diseases.
Items donated include protective clothing and equipment such as wheelbarrows, gumboots and shovels, among others.
“As the road agency sector we have donated items worth K100, 000 and we believe they will go a long way in averting the problem,” said Mr Mubanga.
And ZRA director administration Callistus Kaoma said ZRA would continue supporting Government efforts in fighting cholera and any calamity that would occur in the county.
Mr Kaoma said to support the ongoing battle against the epidemic, ZRA decided to release five vehicles with fuel to ease the movements of the team when carrying out national duties.
“ZRA has been following with keen interest the work that Government has been doing in fighting cholera and in support we decided to make a humble donation of five vehicles with K25,000 worth fuel for each vehicle,” said Mr Kaoma.
And Minister in the Office of the Vice President Sylvia Chalikosa who received the donation said government appreciated efforts from corporate entities towards the fight against cholera as the fight needed concerted efforts.
