PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Chingola Member of Parliament (MP) Matthew Nkhuwa has said no amount of petty criticism from disgruntled people will distract him from concentrating on fulfilling his campaign promises.
Mr Nkhuwa said he campaigned on the platform of improving people’s lives once elected MP and would not allow anybody to stand in his way of delivering his campaign promises of improving education, health, security and water reticulation.
The MP was reacting to media reports where National Restoration Party (NAREP) national youth chairperson Medson Mugala has asked the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to arrest Mr Nkhuwa for political corruption.
Mr Mugala has alleged that in a bid to favour himself and his relatives, Mr Nkhuwa has forced his way by constructing a police post at a site close to his sister’s shop identified as Mrs Nyoni.
But Mr Nkhuwa said he would not waste time on petty politics, but would remain focused on fulfilling his campaign promises because people voted for him so that he could help improve their lives.
“I am an elected MP who was voted by majority of the people of Chingola constituency and so I have to work hard to improve people’s lives. Where there is no security, I will put up a police post, where there is no water, I will bring water.
“So, those who are coming up with all sorts of allegations against me, they just want to distract me so that I lose focus, but I will not lose focus. No amount of petty criticism from disgruntled people will distract me from concentrating on fulfilling my campaign promises,” Mr Nkhuwa said.
And some people talked to at Twaiteka shopping centre, told the Daily Nation that the area had experienced a lot of criminal activities in the past which led to the people in the area lobbying for the construction of the police post.
Ms Ketty Mapipo said people were being robbed, beaten and killed as early as 1900 hours by criminals and it was a good idea for the area MP to put up a police post in the area.
“Yes, there is a shop for Mr Nkhuwa’s sister here, but the idea of putting up a police post was not aimed at providing security to Mr Nkuwa’s sister. No, that is being petty. In fact it was not Mr Nkhuwa who came up with the idea, it was the shop owners and the residents in the area.
“Some of the people within this area have been supportive of this idea. They even provided some materials towards this police post which is now at slab level. Let us be objective. If a person is working just give him credit, instead of politicizing everything,” Ms Mapipo said.
