THE Ministry of Health in Chavuma district has registered about 12,600 households in readiness for the distribution of Insecticide Treated Mosquito Nets.
District health director Dr Kizito Sampa said the registration exercise covered all the 76 neighbourhood health committees in 185 villages.
Dr Sampa said 36,137 mosquito nets are needed to cutter for the registered households in the entire district.
He said the neighbourhood committee members where trained in data capturing and distribution.
“Apart from that, we have incorporated all the traditional leaders in the programme in order to provide assistance in the identification of beneficiaries in their respective villages,” Dr Sampa said.
He said 48 distribution points which are centrally located have been identified to reach out to all the beneficiaries captured during registration.
He said the mass distribution of mosquito nets which was expected to commence soon would help reduce the high malaria incidences in the district, especially in remote areas where people have no access to mosquito nets.
