THERE is need for change in work culture among workers in Zambia, if the country was to develop, Labour and Social Security Minister Joyce Nonde Simukoko has said.
Ms. Simukoko bemoaned the current bad working culture, which she said was hindering development in the country.
She noted that good workmanship, commitment to duty and excellence were very important in bringing about the necessary development that the country required.
She said there was need for workers to improve the work culture such as time management, commitment and excellence.
Ms. Simukoko reiterated that the workers should be desirous of changing their approach to work if the country was to develop.
“Our working culture is extremely bad and because of this it is very difficult to carryout various developments. Our appeal to the workers is to ensure that we change our work culture,” Ms. Simukoko said.
She advised the workers to consider it a privilege to have employment, saying that there were many people who did not have jobs and wishing to be employed so that they could earn a living.
Ms. Simukoko said it was not good for workers to always complain, urging them to appreciate any kind of job they have.
She indicated that if workers could dedicate themselves to duty, the rewards would then follow.
“Everyone who is working right now should know that they are lucky, because they are some people that do not have jobs and wishing to have any job that can to earn them anything,” she said.
Meanwhile, Ms. Simukoko said government would engage employers in improving the working culture in the country.
“We need to change it together with the employers; we will be meeting to find a solution to how best we can change the culture,” she said.
