THE fear being exhibited by UPND vice president for administration Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) following the incarceration of Hakainde Hichilema is a disappointment, 3rd Liberation Movement (3rd LM) president Enoch Tonga has charged.
Mr Tonga said that Mr Mwamba was a big coward and not worth being a leader in any capacity because he had too much fear in him.
He noted that the UPND vice president had gone into hiding following the arrest of Mr Hichilema because of the fear that the police might go after him as well.
Mr Tonga said in an interview with the Daily Nation that Mr Mwamba should come out of the ‘‘hole in which he has been hiding’’ and provide leadership to his party.
He charged that the kind of cowardice being exhibited by Mr Mwamba following the incarceration of Mr Hichilema was extremely disappointing.
Mr Tonga said that a leader was supposed to be bold and ready to face whatever might come his or her way for the sake of his or her followers.
“GBM should come out of whatever hole he has been hiding in. This kind of cowardice is really disappointing for a leader. So he hasn’t been free after the arrest of Mr Hichilema, obviously thinking that he will be next. Come out of that hole, my brother, come out and face whatever is coming,” he said.
Mr Tonga said Mr Mwamba was not telling the truth that he was receiving treatment in India when he was in fact avoiding being arrested.
He reiterated that the UPND leader should ‘‘man up and provide leadership’’ to his party in the absence of their leader.
Mr Tonga wondered why Mr Mwamba was hiding when he had been claiming that he and Mr Hichilema had done nothing wrong.
He said hiding would not solve anything for Mr Mwamba if he was also on the wanted list because the law had its way of catching up with people.
Mr Tonga said that UPND members were in need of leadership now more than ever because their leader was in incarceration.
