BEMBAS will not be bothered if some disgruntled politicians do not attend the Ukusefya pa Ng’wena traditional ceremony in Northern Province.
Chief Luchembe of the Bemba-speaking people of Mpika said that the ceremony was even far much better without the attendance of bitter politicians.
And UPND vice president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba questioned how important Ukusefya pa Ng’wena traditional ceremony of the Bemba was, when asked whether he would attend.
“Do you come from the royal family for you to ask me? Anyway, what is so special about Ukusefya pa Ng’wena?” he questioned.
Chief Luchembe wondered how someone could get aggrieved with things to do with tradition, adding that it did not make sense.
He reiterated the he did not care whether politicians attended the traditional ceremony or not, as long as the ceremony was a success.
“A traditional ceremony is a traditional ceremony, what does it have to do with politics of today, full of mudslinging. No, no, no In fact the lesser the political parties attend, the better the traditional ceremony.
“You look a fool as a politician, to say, you are aggrieved and cannot attend this ceremony. It doesn’t carry any water and it is useless to do that,” said Chief Luchembe.
Chief Luchembe said that traditional leaders were not bothered by politicians who boycotted traditional ceremonies when aggrieved.
He reiterated that traditional ceremonies were even far much better without the presence of distressed politicians.
Chief Luchembe said in an interview with the Daily Nation that it did not matter whether some politicians attended a ceremony or not as long as celebrations had taken place.
He explained that traditional ceremonies were not about politics but to keep the ethnic history and heritage alive.
Chief Luchembe said it was not the problem of any traditional leader when a politician was aggrieved, it was up to them to attend a traditional ceremony or not.
“A traditional ceremony has no affiliation, meaning it doesn’t matter who attends as long as that ceremony takes off. And we are doing it to keep our history and heritage, it’s not about politics, not at all,” he said.
