MERCY Centre for Apostolic Missions (MCAM) Founder Apostle Patrick Chibeshi of Kitwe was recently involved in a near- punch up with some suspected PF Luangwa ward members in Luangwa Township.
The fracas follows Apostle Chibeshi’s meeting with some residents whose houses were flooded because of the heavy rain experienced in Kitwe this week.
The incident happened in Luangwa Township’s Humanism section area where Apostle Chibeshi had left his vehicle by the roadside after two suspected PF ward members blocked it.
The suspected PF ward members told him that he had no right to speak to the affected residents.
Apostle Chibeshi said after he tried to reason with the suspected PF members, they instead hurled insults at him much to the surprise of the residents.
The residents pleaded with the youths to stop misbehaving. The clergyman said in an interview that he had managed to identify two named ward officials who were at the centre of the confusion.
Apostle Chibeshi was among the residents whose houses were flooded due to the rains, said most people’s property was badly damaged.
The clergyman said there was no proper drainage system in the township as people had constructed houses in places where the drainage system was supposed to be. He said this had made it difficult for the local authority’s planning department to properly map up the area.
And Apostle Chibeshi has accused Luangwa ward councillor, Evaristo Chilufya of being behind the fracas.
He claimed that Mr Chilufya who is also deputy Mayor of Kitwe had assigned the named individuals to harass him.
But Mr Chilufya expressed ignorance over the matter raised by Apostle Chibeshi.
On the issue of flooding and poor drainage system in the area, Mr Chilufya said Luangwa Township always battled with the issue of flooding every rainy season because residents had extended their yards beyond the stipulated limits.
He however assured the residents that he would Lobby for a contractor that would start working on the roads and the drainage system after the reason for the betterment of residents in the township.
