President Edgar Lungu has congratulated Joe Biden for being sworn in as the United States of America’s 46th President.
Mr Biden was sworn in yesterday at Capitol Hill in Washington DC, alongside his Vice President Kamala Harris.
President Lungu said Zambia and the US enjoy great bilateral relations which he was confident will continue under Mr. Biden’s administration.
The head of state also congratulated his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni for retaining his seat in the January 14th Presidential election in that country.
President Lungu said President Museveni’s victory shows the confidence and trust that the Ugandan people have in him to continue steering that country to prosperity.
Mr Lungu said he shares President Museveni’s belief that poverty can only be wiped out of Africa if the grassroots are empowered to produce food for home consumption and the surplus for sale so that they earn capital.
The President said the agriculture sector if well managed can end hunger in Africa as President Museveni always says.
This is according to a statement issued to the Daily Nation by Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Isaac Chipampe.
