LAZ PUTS RECORD STRAIGHTTHE Law Association of Zambia has clarified that State Counsel, John Sangwa should have written to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and not President Hakainde Hichilema suggesting that the position of Chief Justice be advertised.In a statement issued to the Daily Nation, LAZ noted that State Counsel, John Sangwa’s suggestions which are progressive, should have been addressed to the JSC, which has the constitutional mandate and not the republican President.LAZ noted in a statement issued by Honorary Secretary Sokwani Chilembo that the Service Commissions Act, gave power to the JSC to regulate its own procedure.He said this procedure could be used to adopt a more transparent method of scrutiny of candidates to be considered for recommendation to the office of Chief Justice, without undermining its operational autonomy enshrined in the Constitution.“LAZ, even now, encourages a transparent process in the appointment of a Chief Justice, but this must be done within the law […]
