By MICHAEL MIYOBAZAMBIA Amateur Athletic Association (ZAAA), long serving secretary general Phil Kubombela, nicknamed “Big Phil,” has passed away. Zambia Athletics president Elias Mpondela confirmed that “Big Phil” died on Tuesday evening at Kitwe Teaching Hospital.Mpondela said his death is a big tragedy for his kids who have now become double orphans with both parents having died. He said Kubombela who saved under three Presidents of ZAAA will be remembered as a fountain of athletics knowledge, wisdom and memory.“I am deeply saddened, on behalf of the Zambian Athletics Executive to announce the passing of our dear brother and the longest serving general secretary of the then ZAAA.Kubombela, who served Mpondela twice as ZA general secretary is suspected to have died from a heart attack.
