By SANFROSSA MANYINDAGOVERNMENT should ban exports of unrefined minerals to reap more benefits in taxes and create jobs for the locals, a mining expert Edward Simukonda has said.Tanzania had turned around its economic fortunes as a result of such policies, Mr Simukonda said in an interview.He said banning exports of raw minerals would help benefit the country’s economy through increased domestic processing and refining which create jobs.Mr Simukonda said the ore came with a lot of other minerals with them that the country had been losing for many years now.He said that refining the minerals locally before they were exported would also benefit Zambians.“We have since 1972 been exporting unrefined minerals thereby leaving us at a loss as a country.
