By MUKWIMA CHILALA THE Community Action Against Corruption (CAAC) has criticised President Hakainde Hichilema for failing to declare his assets, describing it as a setback in the fight against corruption. CAAC Executive Director Brighton Tembo said the President’s failure to declare his assets reflects poorly on his administration’s commitment to combating graft. Mr Tembo’s remarks follow a call by the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) for President Hichilema to disclose his assets and suspend government officials facing corruption charges. He has stressed that the fight against corruption should be evaluated based on tangible actions by the President and his ministers, rather than mere statements. Mr Tembo notes that the President’s stance suggests that he does not want to be held accountable by Zambians people as it is difficult to hold him to account for the wealth that he may accumulate while in office.
