By MILLENNIUM RADIO REPORTERNATIONAL Union for Small Scale Farmers in Zambia has implored the Ministry of Agriculture to quickly pay farmers still owed by government, as the promised deadline has passed.Agriculture Minister Reuben Mtolo Phiri recently pledged that Government would by October 31, 2022 pay out the outstanding arrears to farmers amounting to over K300 million. The union’s Executive Director, Mr Ebony Loloji said the delay to settle the arrears is disadvantaging the farmers as the 2022/2023 farming season has already commenced.Mr Loloji said the government needs to quickly actualise the promise made regarding the clearing of outstanding arrears owed to farmers because they depend on the monies to prepare for the next farming activities. He said it was imperative for the government to put measures in place so that all arrears for supply of commodities to the Food Reserve Agency are settled before the end of the month.
