The residents are worried the overflow from the pit latrines could result in a cholera outbreak. A resident Peter Shula said families affected by the floods had appealed to the District Disaster Management Mitigation Unit in the area for assistance. Nsama District Commissioner Brighton Chaya said public sensitisation campaigns had started following the development. “Government will move in to construct the bridges and crossing points that were washed away during the floods,” he said. And district administration officer Chilufya Mulenga said the local administration had already submitted a report to the provincial administration over the matter. He said the district was in need of tents, foodstuffs, chlorine and lime to prevent the spread of any waterborne diseases.
